| FILMFEST MÜNCHEN set a new record this year: ca. 74.500 tickets were sold, roughly 11,000 more than in 2008. That’s over 17% more. That makes the 27th FILMFEST MÜNCHEN the most successful in its history and beat the record year of 2007 by roughly 9000 tickets sold. ”We’re very pleased that Filmfest had record audiences this year“, said Festival Director Andreas Ströhl. “What’s striking is how curious, enthusiastic and knowledgeable our public is.” Many of the directors, from both Germany and abroad, were pleasantly surprised by the receptiveness of the audiences both during and after the screenings. “Word gets around that we have a great public”, Ströhl was pleased to add. From the very first day, moviegoers stormed the box offices. Many of the screenings of the 214 films were sold out very quickly. Even the films by lesser known filmmakers and debut directors were well attended. “That shows that the festival public trusts our taste”, added Ströhl, “that our program was appealing, that it was comprised of the best – not the most glamorous – from around the world.” Altogether 15 prizes were awarded at FILMFEST MÜNCHEN.
