Can you feel it coming? The excitement level is rising, Munich is putting on the Ritz, the red carpets are being  rolled out, the tuxes and little black dresses being dry-cleaned and the hairdressers are booked solid! On Thursday the red carpet parade will begin, as stars and starlets jostle for the best angle.

This year, Munich welcomes not only Bryan Cranston, Sofia Coppola, Bill Nighy and Reinhard Hauff, but also director Claire Denis, coming straight from Cannes to the opening ceremony in the Mathäser cinema with BRIGHT SUNSHINE IN along with DoP Agnes Godard. Also from France comes Oscar winner Michel Hazanavicius (THE ARTIST and REDOUBTABLE), director Lisa Azuelos with DALIDA actress Sveva Alviti, RODIN actor Vincent Lindon and French star Karin Viard (A BUN IN THE OVEN). From Italy, Munich welcomes directors Sergio Castellitto (Cannes award winner FORTUNATA), Jonas Carpignano (A CIAMBRA), Leonardo di Costanzo (THE INTRUDER) and Roberto de Paolis (PURE HEARTS). For doc THEY CALLED HIM BULLDOZER, veteran actors Riccardo Pizzuti and Salvatore Borgese, who performed in countless Bud Spencer films, will come to Munich.

Guests from the United States include Queens of the Stone Age front man Josh Homme with co-director Andreas Neumann and their doc AMERICAN VALHALLA on the recording of the album "Post Pop Depression" with Iggy Pop. Writer and director Robin Swicord (THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON) will premiere WAKEFIELD with Bryan Cranston. Eleanor Coppola, mother of guest star Sofia Coppola and an acclaimed director herself since HEARTS OF DARKNESS, will debut her first dramatic feature PARIS CAN WAIT in Munich.

TWILIGHT star Justin Chon directs and acts the lead in GOOK. Documentarist Alexandre Philippe returns to Munich after THE PEOPLE VS. GEORGE LUCAS and THE LIFE AND TIMES OF PAUL THE PSYCHIC OCTOPUS with 78/52 about the infamous shower sequence from Alfred Hitchcock's PSYCHO. YouTube star Noël Wells will present her US indie MR. ROOSEVELT and acts in INFINITY BABY by actor-director Bob Byington, who will also be in town. From Canada comes star Deborah Kara Unger (THE GAME, THE HURRICANE) performing in RP Kahl's psychedelic roadtrip A THOUGHT OF ECSTASY.

Naturally, there's no shortage of German stars in Munich: Heike Makatsch will present STRANGE DAUGHTER by Stephan Lacant, Roland Zehrfeld will screen THE BURGLAR, Mavie Hörbiger preems THE GARDEN by Sonja Maria Kröner, Fahri Yardim and Sylvia Hoeks showcase WHATEVER HAPPENS, director Ken Duken will unveil BERLIN FALLING together with fellow cast members Tom Wlaschiha and Marisa Leonie Bach. Get that Berlin feeling in SURVIVAL IN BERLIN-NEUKÖLLN by Rosa von Praunheim, who comes south with famed transvestite performer Juwelia.

Director Hermann Pölking will introduce his magnum opus WHO WAS HITLER with Jürgen Tarrach. Marc Hosemann is on MISSION: LOVE directed by Laura Lackmann. And representing the Berlin Mumblecore scene is Tom Lass in UGLY & BLIND as well as Franz Rogowski in HAPPY END (directed by Michael Haneke) and BEDBUGS, along with writer-director-lead actor Jan-Henrik Stahlberg.

Charly Hübner will present three films this year, MAGICAL MYSTERY, LONELY KNIGHTS and DO YOU SOMETIMES FEEL BURNED OUT AND EMPTY? by Lola Randl, also starring Benno Fürmann, who also performs in ELLA'S BABY. MAGICAL MYSTERY writer and Element of Crime singer Sven Regener comes to Bavaria from the German Far North with star Detlev Buck and director Arne Feldhusen. Director Hans-Christian Schmid (IT'S A JUNGLE OUT THERE) debuts his first TV series, THE VANISHING.

Nastassja Kinski serves on the ARRI/Osram Jury and hold a talk at Filmmakers Live, Edgar Selge will help pick the best candidates for the German Cinema New Talent Award. At the Teen Event staged with Constantin Film, lead actress Hanna Binke and director Katja von Garnier will show a sneak peek of WINDSTORM AND THE WILD HORSES, and director Ute Wieland presents the world premiere of TIGER MILK based on the novel by Stefanie de Velasco, starring Emily Kusche and Flora Li Thiemann. 

So get those clothes dry-cleaned, call your hair-dresser – the glam is on Thursday!
