In September 2000, 191 governments committed to halve world poverty by 2015. They developed 8 goals: The Millennium Development Goals. We're only halfway to reaching these goals. The situation remains critical. Eight filmmakers have engaged to share their vision of these major issues with the public. 8 is not a commissioned film, but one that is independent of all institutions. Each director was given 'carte blanche' for one of the eight goals: 1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger 2. Achieve universal primary education 3. Promote gender equality 4. Reduce child mortality 5. Improve maternal health 6. Combat HIV Aids, malaria and other diseases 7. Ensure environmental sustainability 8. Develop a global partnership for development The film sets out to make the public aware of the existence of this campaign and of the need for action. Production Notes
