THE NILE HILTON INCIDENT
Cairo, January 2011: The corpse of a singer is found in the eponymous Nile Hilton hotel. Police detective Noredin Mustafa delves into a world that makes moderately corrupt cops like himself look squeaky-clean: Apparently the victim entertained her male customers with more than her voice, producing a wealth of potential blackmail material against rich and powerful clients. Soon Mustafa is warned not to stick his nose in places where it doesn’t belong. As the thrill of revolution begins to spread in the capital, the dogged cop keeps hunting his only witness, a Sudanese maid who’s gone into hiding. The neo-noir thriller shot in Casablanca, Marrakesh and Erfurt won the Grand Prize in the World Cinema section at Sundance.
