A visionary in the world of finance is caught between the Cold War and the Baader-Meinhof Gang.
1986: Alfred Herrhausen, chairman of the board of Deutsche Bank, aims for his bank to become international. His demand for debt relief for developing countries upsets a lot of people and draws the attention of the intelligence services. At this time, the USSR is nearly bankrupt following the accident at Chernobyl. Mikhail Gorbachev needs money, and Helmut Kohl is pushing for German reunification. Herrhausen signs an agreement to lend the Soviet Union eight billion marks on behalf of the West German government — and signs his own death warrant in the process.

Meet the director
Pia Strietmann
Writer-director Pia Strietmann was born in Münster in 1978. After gaining experience as an assistant director and assistant cinematographer, she enrolled at the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF) in 2001. Her first feature film, TAGE, DIE BLEIBEN, earned her the NDR Film Award for Newcomers at the Emden-Norderney International Film Festival in 2011. Strietmann followed up with MEIN SOHN, DER KLUGSCHEISSER and the series BLAUMACHER. Her TV movie ENDLICH WITWER (FILMFEST MÜNCHEN 2018), starring Joachim Król, received the Bavarian TV Award in 2020 and was nominated for the Grimme-Preis. Strietmann has also directed several episodes of the crime series TATORT.
