Abel Ferrara and Philip Gröning
Surprise guests at #ffmuc
Two great directors
Philip Gröning, one of this year's guests of honor at FILMFEST MÜNCHEN, is not only presenting his early work at the festival; he'll also be presenting his latest film from 2018, MY BROTHER'S NAME IS ROBERT AND HE IS AN IDIOT, at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The film team will be present at the ceremonious screening at the Gloria Palast.
On top of this, another surprise guest is in store for the movie audience: cult director Abel Ferrara from the United States will offer some remarks in honor of Philip Gröning. Ferrara himself became world-famous for the exploitation films he made in the 1980s. THE DRILLER KILLER and BODY SNATCHERS gave him a reputation as a director of horror films, but thrillers such as KING OF NEW YORK and BAD LIEUTENANT demonstrate that Ferrara's oeuvre extends well beyond the horror genre.
To start off this evening in recognition of Philip Gröning, journalist and film critic Patrick Wellinski from public radio station Deutschlandfunk Kultur will also give a short speech to honor the director. We are very much looking forward to hearing all the interesting insights our guests will offer — and we're of course looking forward to the new film as well!
