Kinderfilmfest München

Welcome to the Kinderfilmfest München, one of Germany's oldest childrens' film festivals

The Kinderfilmfest has been part of FILMFEST MÜNCHEN from the very beginning. The section screens about ten of the best children's films of each year, for ages from five upwards and in all genres, from animation to mystery.

The leading criteria are outstanding filmic quality and themes that are important to a young audience, which often makes them films interesting to a  "big" audience. Some are even shown in original language in the international program. For kids, foreign films are voiced over.
All films are repeated as school screenings, accompanied by educational material for teachers (in German).

Shorts for Kids 5 & Up

For the little ones, there is an annual short film program "Shorts for Kids", introducing the youngest kids to various film genres: From claymation to cut-out animation and live action.

Workshops

Practical workshops give kids hands-on experience at making movies. Each year, the Kinderfilmfest trailer is produced by kids ahead of the festival in one of these workshops. Kid reporters file their stories from the festival for online and the Abendzeitung newspaper.
Grown-up discussions and seminars on educational and kidpic topics round out the program.

Awards

This first prize presented at FILMFEST MÜNCHEN is the children's Media Prize White Elephant, while the Kinderfilmfest ends with the prestigious Audience Award presented on the last day of the festival with a screening of the winning film.

"The Kinderfilmfest is always full of surprises. Our enthusiastic audience and guests from around the world keep the Kinderfilmfest lively." (Katrin Hoffmann)
