Milou Gevers
Milou Gevers, born in 1991, graduated from the Dutch Film Academy in 2020 with the documentary WHY DIDN’T YOU STAY FOR ME? The following year, that film became the first Dutch documentary to be awarded a Student Oscar from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In the film, four children talk about losing a parent to suicide. Gevers, who lost her own mother the same way, asks them the questions that no one dared to ask her at the time. This film earned numerous awards, including the Heart Prize at Prix Jeunesse, the Gouden Leeuw at Cinekid for best Dutch short documentary in 2021, the 2021 CILECT Prize, and the ECFA Documentary Award.
