Award Winners at the 37th FILMFEST MÜNCHEN
The 37th international FILMFEST MÜNCHEN drew to a close on Saturday, July 6, 2019 with a ceremonious presentation of awards. "Bacurau" by Kleber Mendonça Filho and Juliano Dornelles was honored with the ARRI/Osram Award in the CineMasters competition, while Melina León's "Song without a Name" received the CineVision Award for best international film by a new director.

The Winners of the German Cinema New Talent Award
Today, on Friday, July 5 at FILMFEST MÜNCHEN, talented young filmmakers were honored with the coveted German Cinema New Talent Award. The panel of judges — comprised of Melika Foroutan, Claudia Steffen und Alfred Holighaus — honored Jan-Ole Gerster with the award for best director for his film "Lara". Martin Lischke ("Leif in Concert") received the award for best producer. Two awards went to people who worked on "I Was, I Am, I Will Be": Nils Mohl and Ilker Çatak were honored for best screenplay, while the award for best actor went to Oğulcan Arman Uslu.

CineCoPro Award for "The Invisible Life of Eurídice Gusmão"
The €100,000 CineCoPro Award goes to the Brazilian-German co-production "The Invisible Life of Eurídice Gusmão", directed by Karim Aïnouz and co-produced by Viola Fügen and Michael Weber (Pola Pandora Filmproduktion).

"Fatal Plan" receives the 2019 Bernd Burgemeister TV Movie Award
In 2019, the Bernd Burgemeister Award for best German TV movie of the year goes to "Fatal Plan", produced by Dagmar Rosenbauer and Jakob Krebs of Cinecentrum Berlin for the ZDF network and "masterfully directed by Ed Herzog," as producer Rafael Parente remarked in a speech praising the work.

The 37th FILMFEST MÜNCHEN has begun!
The 37th FILMFEST MÜNCHEN held its opening gala at the Mathäser Filmpalast with the film "The Art of Self-Defense". This dark comedy deconstructs social norms and purported ideals of masculinity in a way that is both humorous and poignant. On the red carpet were both US director Riley Stearns and well-known Hollywood actor Jesse Eisenberg.

Candidates for the New German Cinema New Talent Award
FILMFEST MÜNCHEN (June 27 to July 6, 2019) will once again honor the best achievements in the New German Cinema sidebar. This year, the recipients will be chosen by actress Melika Foroutan, producer Claudia Steffen, and author and producer Alfred Holighaus. The awards will be presented on July 5 at 8:00 pm in the AudimaxX auditorium at HFF (by invitation only). Candidates from fourteen films qualify this year.

In 2019, as always, it's not just our stakeholders, but also numerous partners that make it possible for FILMFEST MÜNCHEN to be the exclusive cultural event it is, with thousands of guests and fans of cinema arriving from around the world. "Only with the help of our partners are we able to host an attractive festival with high-caliber films, guests, and events. I'm thankful and proud of the fact that many of our partners have been with us and supporting us for years or in some cases even decades," says festival director Diana Iljine.

Be Alive! — TV Series at the 37th FILMFEST MÜNCHEN
Sometimes day-to-day life isn't enough. It's a great relief, then, that more and more series are being made that offer us viewers an escape for a few minutes in a variety of ways — be it in classical television with its linear storytelling, in streaming services, or in media libraries. Once again, FILMFEST MÜNCHEN has teamed up with the Seriencamp Festival to present exciting new international series in our Series Spotlight section. In addition, the New German TV Series section offers a selection of the most innovative German series among current productions.

VIRTUAL WORLDS
This year, FILMFEST MÜNCHEN will present its first section for Virtual Reality in collaboration with the Bavarian Film Centre. VIRTUAL WORLDS features a selection of the most innovative and important international VR experiences at Munich’s Isarforum from July 2 to July 4.
