FILMTALK: ARGENTINA — SLASHING THE ARTS
Argentina’s film productions are among the most eclectic and artistically significant in the world today. They owe this to a farsighted film subsidy law that democratized cinema when the military dictatorship ended. Since Javier Milei’s government took office, however, this successful model, which set an example for the whole of Latin America, has been under siege. Public funding, particularly for cinema, has been slashed. What funding options remain? How is the film scene resisting the cutbacks, and how is it preserving its creative vitality?
With Martín Rejtman (THE PRACTICE), María Alché and Benjamín Naishtat (PUAN), and Christoph Friedel (co-producer, THE PRACTICE & PUAN), with support of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation.
