Logline

A clever and meticulous ensemble film about a retirement home in a state of emergency.

Sina and her team have their hands full as they run a retirement home outside of Frankfurt. On a cold winter’s day, several people show up to visit their relatives, but when an ice storm hits, the visitors are forced to stay overnight. Since the road that connects the retirement home to the outside world cannot be cleared until the next day, Sina, her head caregiver Martina, and the stranded relatives must summon a great deal of interpersonal skill and organizational ingenuity in order to deal with this cramped situation. As it happens, however, the involuntary overnight stay turns out to be an opportunity to resolve conflicts, find comfort in unexpected encounters, and rekindle relationships.

Martin Enlen

Born in Frankfurt am Main in 1960, Martin Enlen attended the University of Television and Film Munich from 1986 to 1992. His graduation film FOR GOOD REASON received a gold medal for best editing at the 1991 New York Film Festival and was nominated for a Student Academy Award in 1992. In 1995, Enlen delivered an impressive feature debut with ROULA, a drama about incest. That same year, WER KOLLEGEN HAT, BRAUCHT KEINE FEINDE, a TV movie about workplace bullying, was nominated for the Adolf-Grimme-Preis. Enlen has since directed four TATORT episodes and has garnered several audience awards: at the Deutsches FernsehKrimi-Festival in 2013 for UNTER DEN LINDEN, an episode of BELLA BLOCK; at the Festival des Deutschen Films in Ludwigshafen in 2015 for his television drama ÜBER DEN TAG HINAUS; and once again at that festival in 2017 for his TV movie ICH WAR EINE GLÜCKLICHE FRAU, about a woman suffering from dementia.
