In poetic black-and-white images, this melodrama takes us on a journey between two worlds, deep into the rainforest of the Amazon.
Christian siblings Emily and Emir flee from Lebanon to Brazil, desperate to get away from the war that had cost their parents their lives. On the ship, Emily meets a businessman named Omar and begins to imagine a better life with him. But Emir wants to prevent her from having a relationship with the Muslim.

Meet the director
Marcelo Gomes
Marcelo Gomes studied filmmaking at the University of Bristol. His first film, CINEMA, ASPIRINS AND VULTURES, premiered at Cannes in 2005. His second feature film, VIAJO PORQUE PRECISO, VOLTO PORQUE TE AMO (2009), which he and Karim Aïnouz directed, premiered at the Venice Film Festival. His biopic JOAQUIM was screened at the Berlinale in 2017, while his drama PALOMA had its world premiere at the Munich International Film Festival in 2022.
