Unadorned realism that shines a light on vulnerable bodies and barren landscapes in the late Franco era.
Galicia, 1971: María, an outsider in a small island community, is a midwife. She also helps women to terminate their pregnancies, which results in tragedy for one teenager. As the Franco regime strictly prosecutes such abortions, María has to flee to Portugal.

Meet the director
Jaione Camborda
Galician writer-director Jaione Camborda attended the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF). Her first feature film, ARIMA (2019), earned the award for best director in the New Waves section at the Seville European Film Festival. Camborda received the TIFF Canada Goose Scholarship. THE RYE HORN was awarded the Golden Shell at the San Sebastián Film Festival.
