Showing solidarity

From July 1 to August 15, the courtyard of the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF) will be transformed into the cozy POPUP SOMMERKINO powered by M-net, which will present a fresh line-up of films each evening on a large outdoor screen. The Sommerkino (summer cinema) is an initiative of the Munich film festivals, the Seriencamp Festival, and the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF) in collaboration with Veronika Faistbauer and Simon Pirron. FILMFEST MÜNCHEN will kick things off from July 1 to July 10.

The POPUP SOMMERKINO powered by M-net in the courtyard of the HFF will open with the highly anticipated latest installment in the series of feature films about village cop Franz Eberhofer, KAISERSCHMARRNDRAMA, directed by Ed Herzog. This will be followed by the film LAND by US actress and director Robin Wright, who will be honored with the CineMerit Award at FILMFEST MÜNCHEN. Further screenings will offer a colorful potpourri of FILMFEST MÜNCHEN programming, from the international production LIMBO from the CineVison competition for up-and-coming directors to the world premiere of the German feature film VIVA FOREVER and the documentary WHY ARE WE (NOT) CREATIVE? to TV movies with celebrity casts (COLLEAGUES – EVIL CHILD, COMPASSIONATE USE, and THE AIR WE BREATHE). This location is also where the award ceremonies for the Bernd Burgemeister TV Movie Award and the German Cinema New Talent Award will be held. After the Filmfest concludes, the Seriencamp Festival, the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF), DOK.fest München, Filmstadt München e.V., main sponsor M-net, and other partners will show films in a line-up that changes daily.

I’m absolutely thrilled by the solidarity and spirit of unity among the Munich institutions that work with film and television series. After a long dry spell, all of us together can take advantage of this great initiative to help movies return to the big screen. Last year, thanks to Veronika Faistbauer, Simon Pirron, and their fantastic team, we were able to celebrate seven unique film premieres at FILMFEST MÜNCHEN POP-UP with special guests attending. We’re looking forward to this latest collaboration!

POPUP SOMMERKINO powered by M-net is operated by Junique Productions GmbH under the overall management of Veronika Faistbauer and Simon Pirron, who set up the PopUp Autokino München on the grounds of the Zenith event hall in a very short time last summer. In this year’s collaboration with FILMFEST MÜNCHEN, the Seriencamp Festival, DOK.fest München, Filmstadt München e.V., and the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF), they are now bringing culture in the form of films and television series to the inner courtyard of the film academy.

You’ll find all the details about the program of the 38th FILMFEST MÜNCHEN here.

Information about the POPUP SOMMERKINO will be available soon at www.popup-sommerkino.de.
