An Evening with Jakob Lass

Next year, there are two anniversaries on the program that offer plenty of reason to celebrate: On the one hand, the FILMFEST MÜNCHEN itself will of course celebrate its 40th festival edition in 2023 and thus a round birthday.
On the other hand, the summer also marks the anniversary of the premiere of a very special film: In 2013, LOVE STEAKS, Jakob Lass' milestone of "German Mumblecore," saw the light of day at FILMFEST MÜNCHEN - and how! In an unprecedented triumph, LOVE STEAKS won all four categories (direction, production, screenplay and acting) of the New German Cinema Award. Now that's a reason to celebrate!
On the occasion of this upcoming anniversary, FILMFEST MÜNCHEN - in (cooperation with) the Alten Westend Apotheke - will show two films by the director on Saturday, December 17 at 5 p.m. (admission from 4:30 p.m., admission: 5 euros): His first short film BADEMEISTER PAUL as well as his debut feature-length film FRONTALWATTE. There will also be an in-depth workshop discussion with Jakob Lass, our artistic director Christoph Gröner and film festival programmer Julia Weigl about Lass' typical improvisational technique.

Frontalwatte

Bademeister Paul
Join us as we transform the Westend Apotheke into a cinema hall on this special day and let the anticipation of the 40th FILMFEST MUNICH build!
BADEMEISTER PAUL (2007)
Jakob Lass' first short film is a comical mockumentary about the shallows and abysses of an indoor swimming pool and a lifeguard with a dark secret.
FRONTALWATTE (2011)
"Frontalwatte is like running into a wall and falling softly." Jakob Lass' first feature-length film, made during his studies at Babelsberg's Konrad Wolf Film University, sketches whimsical everyday scenes of young adults in Berlin. In the film, Lass' discovery franz Rogowski makes his first big appearance - his final breakthrough followed two years later with LOVE STEAKS.
