Down the River
Filmfest 2006

Two old pals lose their work as boatmen on the Elbe river. While down-to-earth Gero tries to get back on his feet, reckless Kowsky keeps gambling with friendship and life time and time again. For all that, they set out together from Dresden for Hamburg, hoping to find new work, a new love, a new life. For old time’s sake, their road is the river. "Writer Holger Nickel and director Marco Mittelstaedt know the Elbe like the back of their hands and this journey of two old friends on the Elbe is a kind of “buddy-river-movie” with the last German river that still has shifting shores as the third protagonist. This laconic tragicomedy fuses sadness, anger, humor, and violence." Producer's Note
