Seven Days
Filmfest 2008

Israel during the First Gulf War 1991. As Saddam Hussein's missiles rain down, the Ohaion family convenes to mourn the loss of one of their brothers. While sitting shiv'a, they spend seven todays together in the deceased man's house, according to ancient Jewish rite, sleeping on thin mattresses, eating only light meals, not shaving, showering or changing clothes. They devote themselves to prayer and taking their leave from their beloved one. Guests come to visit and exchange memories of the departed. But instead of finding reconciliation, the Ohaions find themselves confronted with each other and their old family conflicts. As the week of shiv'a drags on, the bare bones of the family are soon exposed ... "Ronit Elkabetz, the diva of contemporary Israeli cinema" EuroNews
