Filmfest 2008

The Three Wise Kings travel in search of the Messiah, who has just been born. Vertigo Magazine: What is it that creates the film's power? Serra: Faith. Not religious, but faith in the film. The intuition that there is a poetic quality to it. However, there is nothing behind the images. It is not spirituality, the metaphysics of abstract art. It goes even further than that. A very modern lyricism, I believe... The shots are placed one after the other as witnesses of faith, but not without this faith being presented through construction of perspective. I think it truly is a religious film, the first for many years.
