Sumru (28) is working on her doctorate in music at a university in Istanbul. She sets off for the southeast of the country for a few months to record a collection of Anatolian elegies. The trip turns out to be the longest journey of her life. In the course of it, Sumru crosses paths with Ahmet, a young man who sells bootleg DVDs on the streets of Diyarbakir, with Antranik, the aging and solitary warden of a crumbling church in the city, and with various people who witness the ongoing "unnamed war".
During her 3-month stay in Diyarbakir, she has to confront an agony from her own past which she has repressed until now. They set off for an evacuated mountain village in Hakkari and she does not answer Ahmet's questions. Why are they taking such a dangerous journey?
