Dr. Hope II
Filmfest 2009

She was a pioneer of the women's movement and the first woman in Germany to become a medical doctor: Hope Bridges Adams-Lehmann (1855-1916). She fought for women's rights as well as for better hygiene, public health care and more preventive medicine. This two part TV movie tells the story of her life. Hope Bridges Adams-Lehmann always fought for her convictions. She was uncompromising in her opposition to the ruling consensus of her day in regard to women's position in society and did much to improve the antiquated medical establishment. Her struggle did much to influence our contemporary reality. Playing such an extraordinary woman was very appealing, especially since we too live in a time of change in which we have to go in new directions. Heike Makatsch
