No one tried to make this film into a masterpiece. Instead they aimed a few notches lower and made it into something almost as satisfying, the ideal three-star movie. This is pure entertainment but smart entertainment, plotted and executed with invention and humor and acted by a winning cast radiating good-movie energy. For one thing, the action has been moved, as the story begins, from Turin to Venice, an improvement by any measure.
