The Last Men
Filmfest 2010

Tired of ironing his own shirts and eating tinned food, Karl Schwingenschlögl goes shopping for an imported wife. In conversations with like-minded men – the “last men” of the title who have had no luck with the Austrian women they consider too emancipated – Karl discusses the phenomenon of mail-order brides from Asia. Meanwhile, the Thai or Filipina wives proudly display their kitchen appliances... In the best tradition of the unreliable first-person narrator, the men reveal far more than they realize about themselves and their views of marriage and Asian women.
