Perpetuum mobile
Filmfest 2010

A weirdly hilarious peek into the misadventures of Gabino, a 24-year-old slacker who drives a moving van in Mexico City. At work, he deals with troublesome clients and constantly witnesses the perils and distress that others endure as they move out of their homes and out of other people's lives. At home, he lives with his incessantly nagging mother, Teresa, who dotes on his elder college-educated brother, Miguel. Gabino and his mom have a strained relationship which comes to a climax one day when they stumble upon an unsettling discovery. Executed with an unfussy style that proves curiously compelling - and, after the credits have rolled, hauntingly resonant - this wryly funny third feature from Mexican director Nicolás Pereda won the coveted "Films in Progress 15" Award at the Rencontres Cinémas d’Amérique Latine in Toulouse, as well as a Jury Prize at last year’s San Sebastián International Film Festival.
