Director: Walter Hill
Section: Retrospective - Walter Hill
The film portrays the legendary Apache's violent bolt from reservation life in 1885 and the Army campaign to hunt him down. Mr. Hill's movie voids the romantic extremes of most films about Indians; this is no Dances With Wolves. Still, Mr. Hill said, the effort to make a commercially successful product required reshuffling events and smoothing some of Geronimo's edges. "History is fascinating, but it is not a good dramatist," he said.
