The Journals Of Musan
Filmfest 2011

Shy Jeon Seung-chul, played by director Park Jungbum, tries to make an honest living in Seoul after having fled North Korea. His only solace is a beautiful white stray puppy he has found. He eventually gets a job at a karaoke bar and things start looking up, both romantically and financially, but he remains an outsider. "Every citizen in Korea has a registration number. But many people are discriminated against precisely because of this number. They are refugees from the North and even though they are Koreans, they are less welcome than foreigners. Almost all of them have undergone terrible hardships escaping to South Korea. But what is their reality once they arrive? They are forced to struggle again for survival. In order to stay alive, they have to live a life where they are trampled on and have to trample on someone as well." Jungbum Park
