The Last Hammer Blow
Victor lives in a community of trailers and huts on the seaside with his mother Nadia. He decides to seek out his long-absent father, conductor Samuel Rovinski. Samuel has recently arrived to rehearse Mahler's Sixth Symphony with the local orchestra and is completely unaware of Victor's existence. His initial hostility turns to an awkward kind of tenderness, and − possibly − love.
"In my films, there aren't many words. That isn't a goal I set myself, it just happens that way. It's not a matter of silence but rather of a virgin terrain. Just like Victor on the verge of turning 14. With him, I wanted to feel the absence of a father and the fear of losing a mother. To discover classical music with him and immerse him in an orchestra in the midst of rehearsals. And what mattered to me most of all was bringing this boy to experience his first artistic emotion."
