Colour Me Kubrick: A True...ish Story
Filmfest 2011

A somewhat fictionalized account of an amazing but true story. The filmmakers have wisely turned it into a comedy, and a wickedly entertaining one at that, exploiting in a humorous way the vanity that would inhibit people from questioning why someone of Kubrick's stature would be hanging out with them. Even more wisely, John Malkovich has been cast as the scammer who has con written all over him. The actor has a blast being "Stanley Kubrick," giving an outsized performance that alone is worth the price of admission. Malkovich plays the bogus Stanley, as he insists his new best friends call him, as a seducer. Dressed in outrageous getups - bras worn over tops Madonna-style, a little skirt, pajama bottoms, black lace gloves, cravats and a ratty fur coat of questionable origin - he preys on the vulnerable.
