Filmfest 2017

Ferdi thinks he's ugly – but likes the fact Jona is interested in him. Maybe because she's blind. What Ferdi doesn't suspect: She's just pretending to be blind to be able to live cheaply in subsidized housing. How long can she maintain her charade? Can love, which is supposed to make you blind, even work out that way? Director Tom Lass takes a closer look, shooting with blind actors and old Berlin buddies, acting the lead himself – paying tribute to a way of life beyond our way of seeing the world.

Tom Lass. Born in 1983 in Munich. Didn’t study anything. Started acting at the Age of 15 in 1999. Since 2005 he became active behind the camera, first as a production assistant and driver, then unit and location manager and eventually first A.D. He then made a big leap with his first, improvised low budget feature, PAPA GOLD (2011): it was nominated for the Max-Ophüls-Award and the First Steps Award and won, amongst others, the Association of German Film Critics Award at the Achtung Berlin festival. He followed it in 2013 with another low budget feature, KAPTN OSKAR, which took the top award at the Oldenburg Film Festival and its lead actress Martina Schöne-Radunski taking home the Seymour Cassel Award. His 3rd feature UGLY & BLIND is a collaboration with ZDF and will premiere at the International Filmfest Munich.
