In the villages of the Thar Desert, the sting of a scorpion can be fatal. In fact, according to legend, only the song of a scorpion singer can counteract the poison. Nooran learns this art of healing from her grandmother, a renowned scorpion singer, and marries Aadam, a camel trader who admires Nooran for her voice. But soon after they are married, fate delivers a blow.

Anup Singh was born in Tanzania in 1961. He studied at the University of Bombay and the Film and Television Institute of India. He grew up as a Sikh of Punjabi descent. The expulsion of the Sikh in India is one of the central themes of his work. His debut film, THE NAME OF THE RIVER (2002), was shown at more than 30 festivals around the world and won several prizes. The film that followed, QISSA: THE TALE OF A LONELY GHOST (2013), received 15 awards and was shown at the international film festivals in Toronto and Rotterdam. Singh also works for Indian television as well as for BBC2. He also writes film reviews, such as for the magazine Sight & Sound.
