Ramin, a young homosexual man, flees repression in Iran and arrives in Veracruz, Mexico, after traveling clandestinely on a cargo ship from Turkey. While contemplating what he will do next, Ramin tries to cope with being so far away from his lover, who stayed behind in Tehran. Although in a state of deep longing and nostalgia, he also savors his newfound freedom far from Iran.

biography

Born in Tehran, Iran, in 1977, Bani Khoshnoudi was raised in Texas in the United States. After studying photography and film at the University of Texas at Austin, she spent several years in France. The short and documentary films she made there received a number of awards at international festivals. Khoshnoudi was an artist-in-residence at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York and was selected for a Cinéfondation Writing Residency at the Cannes Film Festival. There she wrote the screenplay to her first feature-length film, ZIBA (2012). Other works of hers include the short film TRANSIT (2005), the experimental film TRANSITS: OUR TRACES, OUR RUIN (2016), and two documentaries about Iran, A PEOPLE IN THE SHADOWS (2008) and THE SILENT MAJORITY SPEAKS (2014).
