Those with a high opinion of themselves spend their evenings at the Rossini restaurant. And they're all there: authors, directors, producers, actors, journalists... eating and drinking into the night. Beneath the façades, desires simmer. Time after time, the complicated relationships that connect everyone get in the way of director Uhu Zigeuner and producer Oskar Reiter's next big project. The screenplay to the best-selling novel "The Loreley" must be acquired, a film must be funded, and the cast for it must be found, but the frenzy of people's libidos causes some of the plans to evolve in a totally different direction.
With ROSSINI, Helmut Dietl made his favorite Munich restaurant, "Romagna Antica", an icon. Recreated in the smallest detail, the imitation on screen calls to mind numerous real filmmakers, such as Dietl himself, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Volker Schlöndorff, and Bernd Eichinger, who regularly frequented the original. Dietl's biting satire about filmmaking is a homage to both a lifestyle and to Schwabing's high society.
