EXHIBITION: SETTING FORTH FOR THE HERE AND NOW: NEW GERMAN CINEMA
From June 6 until July 28 at the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts, with a parallel program of films at the Filmmuseum München and Theatiner Film cinemas
The Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts in Munich will be showing the exhibition "Aufbruch ins Jetzt – Der Neue Deutsche Film" ("Departing for the Here and Now: New German Cinema") until July 28. This exhibition of works by Beat Presser enables a fresh look back at the future in images, words, and sounds at the culturally and historically significant era of New German Cinema in the 1960s and ’70s. Over the past nine years, Beat Presser, still photographer for Werner Herzog on the set of FITZCARRALDO, COBRA VERDE, and INVINCIBLE, photographed, interviewed, and filmed 56 persons from all moviemaking professions who were involved in productions of New German Cinema, whether in front of or behind the camera. The always surprising look back at the future is brought to life in some 150 contemporary black-and-white and color photographic portraits. Video and sound installations enable one to understand from today's perspective the way these artists set forth back then to break new ground.
