From September 2022 to June 2023, three cinema associations — AG Kino, BkF, and HDF — oversaw a project called “Young Cinema: Networks for the Future”. Its goal: to get children and young people excited about the movies, because it’s high time for young talent! In recent months, a good 30 cinemas, ranging from small initiatives to large multiplexes, have organized and held participatory, in-person events in rural and urban areas across Germany, for children and young people, including workshops, festivals, and film clubs. Now we’ll take stock and look ahead. Which formats were implemented? What have we learned? Where do we go from here? First we will present the results, then we’ll discuss ideas in a casual setting.
