Bayerischer Rundfunk is a founding member and co-partner of Internationale Münchner Filmwochen GmbH, which was established on January 25, 1979.

Since the founding of FILMFEST MÜNCHEN, it has promoted the technical, organizational and programmatic realization of the film weeks in its role as shareholder. With its commitment, BR takes on the task of presenting film as a unifying community experience for the broadest circles of the population and highlighting its importance as an internationally significant medium of art and culture. Bayerischer Rundfunk also continually expanded its commitment as a co-producer, award sponsor, supporter of young talent and media partner, especially through its extensive coverage of FILMFEST MÜNCHEN.
