THE LITTLE MATCH GIRL
Marie and Walter follow the rhythm of the music through life, always uncertain whether they and their daughter will have enough money the next day, but never saddened by the idea. Their story touches upon Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale, Robert Bresson's donkey Balthazar, the friendship between a pianist and a member of the RAF, and composer Helmut Lachenmann's tragicomic attempts to perform a modernist opera with an orchestra that's on strike.
