TAINTED SOULS
A house on the outskirts of Rome is home to Marcello, a former bodybuilder; his wife, Chiara, who at first doesn't suspect Marcello's affair with a bourgeois professor; drug dealer Gianfranco, who wants to take his place among the big-league tough guys; and several other working-class individuals whose fates are intertwined in this ensemble film. Feelings are opaque, souls are tainted, and contact with the criminal milieu is, as the Italian title suggests, a contagion.
Meet the director
Matteo Botrugno, Daniele Coluccini
Matteo Botrugno (first) and Daniele Coluccini (second), both born in Rome in 1981, studied history and film criticism. After working as film critics, they decided to direct independently produced short films in which they combined their experiences in the visual and musical realms. CHRYSALIS, their first short film, was shown at various film festivals in 2007. This was followed by EUROPA (also 2007) and SISIFO (2008), the remaining parts of a short-film trilogy. SISIFO was honored as best short film at the Mexico City International Film Festival. Since 2008, Botrugno and Coluccini have directed several music videos. ET IN TERRA PAX (2010) was their first feature-length film, TAINTED SOULS their second.
