ASH IS PUREST WHITE
Even in the underworld, some follow a code of honor. Qiao loves the gangster Bin and intervenes in a conflict in order to save his life. For that, she spends five years in prison. After her release, she goes in search of her beloved. People change, though, as does the country in which they spend their days and nights. This is a romance and a gangster film, melodramatic with a pop touch.
Meet the director
Zhang-Ke Jia
Jia Zhangke was born in Fenyang in 1970. He graduated from the Beijing Film Academy and directed his first feature film, XIAO WU, in 1998. He is known for his melodramatic as well as critical themes. He has received numerous awards for his works, including the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival for STILL LIFE and the best screenplay award at the Cannes Film Festival for A TOUCH OF SIN (2013), which, like many of his films, has been shown at FILMFEST MÜNCHEN.
