FILM FESTIVALS AND ART-HOUSE CINEMAS: PARTNERS OR COMPETITORS?

Association of Bavarian Film Festivals (VBFF)

Festival films have almost become their own genre. Existing outside the usual platforms of movie theaters, TV, DVDs and VOD, they find their audience (almost) exclusively at film festivals. But what is it about festivals that is particularly attractive? How do film festivals define themselves? And how do art-house cinemas position themselves relative to festivals? Do they act in concert, or do they take bread out of each other's mouths? This will be an exciting discussion with festival and cinema directors.
