SMALL SCREEN, GREAT CINEMA: DEVELOPING MATERIAL FOR YOUNG TARGET AUDIENCES

What exactly makes a "notable children's film" notable and can fill movie theaters with a desired new generation of viewers? Which narrative challenges and opportunities does the Web series format offer, and what are the different means available to measure its success? How can a high-end German series hold its own against American productions that are competing for the attention of young viewers, and how critical are genre and innovative storytelling in this context? What dramaturgical qualities do successful projects from KiKa, Nickelodeon and other networks have in common? In the Association for Film and Television Dramaturgy's (VeDRA) panel discussion, film creators in the fields of scriptwriting, production, direction, and dramaturgy discuss the options available for narratives tailored to target audiences from children to young adults.
