PARASITE
Things don't look good for Ki-taek's family. Although the bond among them is strong, the fact that all four family members are unemployed casts a big shadow over them. Then the son, Ki-woo, gets an offer to be a tutor to the Park family, which has lots of money due to its ownership of an IT firm. Finally there's hope for a better life! However, when Ki-woo meets the Parks, this has unforeseen consequences for both sides. With his usual black humor and blurring of genres, Bong Joon Ho dissects society and for this has become the first Korean filmmaker to receive the Golden Palm in Cannes. FILMFEST MÜNCHEN is devoting a retrospective to Bong's complete works this year.

Bong Joon Ho
Bong Joon Ho wurde 1969 in Daegu, Südkorea, geboren. Er studierte zunächst Soziologie an der Yonsei University in Seoul, bevor er ein zweijähriges Programm an der Korean Academy of Film Arts absolvierte. Schon sein erster Spielfilm HUNDE, DIE BELLEN, BEISSEN NICHT über einen Universitätsdozenten, der unliebsame Hunde entführt, wurde positiv von Kritikern aufgenommen und lief im Jahr 2001 auf dem FILMFEST MÜNCHEN. Seinen Durchbruch schaffte er mit seinem zweiten Film MEMORIES OF MURDER (2003) über eine reale Mordserie. Der satirische Monsterfilm THE HOST (2006) und der international besetzte Science-Fiction-Film SNOWPIERCER (2013) zählen mit jeweils mehr als neun Millionen Besuchern in Südkorea zu den 20 erfolgreichsten Filmen aller Zeiten. Sein neuester Film PARASITE (2019), der beim diesjährigen FILMFEST MÜNCHEN in der Reihe CineMasters läuft, gewann die Goldene Palme bei den Filmfestspielen von Cannes.
