Science fiction can’t get any more prophetic than this. How nice that you can enjoy this film outdoors!
Early one morning, a pink cloud appears over the rooftops of the city. It looks pretty, but spells disaster: anyone who leaves the confines of their house loses their life in ten seconds or less. The night before, of all nights, Giovana had a one-night stand; the man, Yago, is still in her attic apartment. Now that a lockdown is in effect, they have to get along a little longer — or for very long. The toxic cloud stays put for years as mankind experiences the apocalypse. Yago isn’t the only one who tries to take a positive view of things: the lockdown will finally slow down everyday life, stop climate change, and reduce the number of accidental deaths, won’t it? Giovana, on the other hand, just feels trapped. The fact that director Iuli Gerbase wrote the screenplay in 2017 and shot the film in 2019 gives the film the ultimate punchline: she made a pandemic film that reality suddenly overtook during post-production.

Meet the director
Iuli Gerbase
Born in Porto Alegre in 1990, Iuli Gerbase is a Brazilian filmmaker and screenwriter. She studied film and creative writing and began making films at the age of 20. In the process, she developed a taste for writing strong dialogue and exploring inner conflicts. She has written and directed six short films that have been screened at and won awards at festivals worldwide, such as TIFF and the Havana Film Festival. THE PINK CLOUD is her first feature film. Her current projects include a second feature film, another science fiction drama, and a TV series.
