The difference between good and bad upbringing becomes clear with increasing trepidation.
Don’t ever leave the property, the counselors warn the young men at a summer camp in rural Mexico. Organized annually by the private religious school their rich parents send them to, the camp is intended to give the boys physical, moral, and religious training so that they become tomorrow’s elite. One day, however, a large hole is discovered in the fence that marks the perimeter. The “dangerous” local world outside threatens to intrude, but the most disturbing elements are already lurking inside, in the minds of the boys and especially their caretakers.
Meet the director
Joaquín del Paso
Joaquín del Paso, born in Mexico City in 1986, earned a master’s degree from the Polish National Film, Television and Theatre School in Łódź. His first feature film, PANAMERICAN MACHINERY, premiered in the Forum section of the 2016 Berlinale. The film was subsequently screened at more than 60 festivals worldwide and received several awards, including the Andrzej Munk Film Award for best Polish debut film and the Silver Ariel awarded by the Mexican Film Academy for best screenplay. THE HOLE IN THE FENCE (2021) is his second feature film.
