An enigmatic portrait of the young creative community in Chile amid (broken) relationships, social media, and genuine friendship.
As a young actor in Chile, Pablo is finding it hard to get by. He plays the patient for medical students and stands in for absent relatives in weird family therapy sessions. His financial worries increase when his lodger disappears while owing him two months’ rent. The lodger has, however, left behind a few plants, a dog named Susan, and a sweater that’s haunted by a ghost. Pablo hangs out with his ex-boyfriend, a well-known YouTuber, and continues to dream of a great career in film.
Director Roberto Doveris shot this film during the spooky time of the pandemic, using his own apartment as a location. He explores the social structures in Ñuñoa, a neighborhood in Santiago. Employing a great sense of humor, he tells the story of a generation that is creatively and desperately carving out an existence somewhere between the vastness of the Internet and the intimacy of personal relationships on the outskirts of town.
Meet the director
Roberto Doveris
Roberto Doveris holds a master’s degree in art theory from the University of Chile and spent five years as editor-in-chief at CinemaChile, an agency dedicated to promoting films from Chile around the world. In 2010, Doveris founded his own production company, Niña Niño Films, under whose umbrella he has so far produced more than forty music videos, several promotional films and, most importantly, movies. His own directorial debut, PLANTS, premiered at the 2016 Berlinale and was honored with the Grand Prix of the Generation 14plus Jury for best feature film. His second feature film, PHANTOM PROJECT, premiered at the 2022 Rotterdam Film Festival.
