Logline
A harsh yet artistic noir thriller that once again demonstrates the visual and critical strength of young Chinese cinema.
China, 1997. A series of murders rocks the city of Fentun. Mysteriously, the crimes stop without the perpetrator having been caught. Eight years later, a young police officer who was close to one of the victims decides to reopen the investigation.
Meet the director
Ji Zhang
After graduating from the Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts, Zhang Ji studied cinematography at the Beijing Film Academy. He was then the cinematographer on such films as LETTERS FROM DEATH ROW (2008) and NORTH BY NORTHEAST (2014). FIRE ON THE PLAIN is his first feature film as a director.
