From Albania, an artistically innovative, heartbreaking portrait of twins.
Identical twins Agim and Gëzim have a strong bond between them. Both are deaf, which does not affect their everyday life in Tirana very much. But the diagnosis of a rare genetic disease means they could both lose their sight as well. With Gëzim's girlfriend Ana by their side, they prepare for a drastic change in their lives.
Meet the director
Gentian Koçi
Gentian Koçi was born in 1979 in Tirana, the capital of Albania. He studied film and television directing at the Academy of Film and Multimedia in Marubi, graduating in 2009. For nearly a decade, he was a cameraman for TV Klan, a television station in Tirana. His short films and documentaries were screened at various national and international festivals and received several awards. His first documentary, NOT A CARWASH, was in the official selection of the Hot Docs documentary festival in Toronto in 2012. Koçi's first feature-length film, DAYBREAK, which he produced and for which he also wrote the screenplay, premiered in competition at the Sarajevo International Film Festival in 2017. DAYBREAK was screened at more than 50 festivals, winning other awards along the way. In addition, that film was Albania's submission for the Oscar in the category of best foreign film. A CUP OF COFFEE AND NEW SHOES ON is Koçi's second feature film.
