A poignant film depicting real-life circumstances as a girl and her mother struggle to survive. This is the first feature film to be directed by a woman born in Nicaragua.
Eleven-year-old Maria and her mother, Lilibeth, live on the edge of Nicaragua's largest garbage dump, where they spend each day scavenging for salvageable material. When a lucrative deal falls through, Lilibeth drops her daughter off at a recycling center and tells her to stay there and work. Lilibeth goes into town to raise money, but doesn't return. Maria befriends a mysterious boy who is determined to help her find her missing mother.
