CONSENSUS GENTIUM is an emotionally responsive film designed to be experienced on a mobile phone. Set in a future of surveillance and bias AI, the film watches you back, then the narrative branches in real time depending on your eye gaze.

CONSENSUS GENTIUM is an interactive experience designed to drive discussion about data privacy, unconscious biases and the power of technology. The immersive experience includes an intro by the artist then after the experience a collective decompression with the audience to explore the themes within the experience and their potential agency in the future.

CONSENSUS GENTIUM is a powerful exploration into the implications of today’s AI technology. It is an interactive film that integrates cutting-edge facial detection and AI, which transports audiences on a unique quest to discover what could come about if we succumb to unchecked surveillance. Through a smartphone, participants are tasked to obtain increased mobility to visit their sick Nana through a government surveillance Global Citizen App. Using various tests their dissidence or compliance is calculated, by monitoring data for their conscious and subconscious eye gaze interactions, by the devices’ front-facing camera. Bio Karen Palmer
Karen Palmer is a visionary XR artist who explores the societal implications of A.I and technology on social structures, inequality and potential dystopian outcomes. As the Storyteller from the Future, she is an XR creator and futurist blending art, tech and theater to enable participants to experience the future today. Karen recently won the coveted XR Experience Competition at SXSW 2023 with her film Consensus Gentium. Previously she received Honorary Mention for the STARTS Prize ARS Electronica and the Digital Dozen Award for break throughs in storytelling award.
