Franz X. Gernstl, Jonas Gernstl
Franz Xaver Gernstl, born in southern Bavaria in 1951, is a documentary filmmaker and producer. He trained as a banker and studied social pedagogy prior to becoming a reporter for children's programs at Bayerischer Rundfunk in the 1970s. Since 1983 he has traveled the world for GERNSTL UNTERWEGS, initially titled ALLERHAND LEUTE, a series that received the Grimme-Preis in 2000, the Bavarian Television Prize in 2001, and the Kulturpreis Bayern in 2007. Also starting in 1983, he created the megaherz film production company, which produces not only his own films, but also such popular documentary series as CHECKER TOBI and DIE LANDFRAUENKÜCHE.
Jonas Gernstl is a German director and writer. He studied documentary film and television journalism at the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF). He works in format development and as a film director for Bayerischer Rundfunk and RTL. GUERILLA KÖCHE (2013) and 665 FREUNDE (2017) are two documentaries he's directed which have made it onto the big screen. Jonas Gernstl has routinely worked with his father, Franz Xaver Gernstl, since 2006
