Sujo is four when his father, a member of a drug cartel, is murdered. To protect the boy, his aunt raises him in hiding in the countryside. As a teenager, however, he falls in with the wrong crowd. Crime and violence dominate his life until he flees his hometown and a new world suddenly presents itself to him.

Meet the director
Astrid Rondero, Fernanda Valadez
Astrid Rondero and Fernanda Valadez from Mexico have worked together as screenwriters and directors for more than 15 years. This collaboration resulted in the short films OF THIS WORLD (2010) and 400 BAGS (2014) as well as the feature-length films THE DARKEST DAYS OF US (2017) and IDENTIFYING FEATURES (2020), which earned awards at various festivals. SUJO is their third feature-length film together.
