Clara Stella Hünekes graduation film at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg gives several years’ worth of insight into a project whose importance cannot be overstated.
Three friends — Jamila, 9, Rachel, 11, and Faseeha, 12 — belong to Sisterqueens, a rappers’ collective in Berlin’s Wedding district. Mentored by accomplished female rappers, they learn to respect themselves, question societal norms, and condemn injustice. This observational documentary follows the three girls over several years as they take their first steps as young, self-confident artists who, not least, defy gender stereotypes in rap.
SISTERQUEENS is a project by Peira in cooperation with Haszcara, Alice Dee, Leila Ey and various girls' centers.
Recommended for ages 10 and up.
